A 19-year-old Venezuelan in New York City reportedly was apprehended by Trump administration immigration authorities and deported to El Salvador despite agents’ realizing he was not whom they meant to arrest in a targeted operation.
Merwil Gutiérrez, whose family opened an asylum case after arriving in the US, was deported from the Bronx to the notorious Cecot prison in El Salvador despite his relatives’ insistence that he has no gang ties or criminal history, according to Documented, a newsroom dedicated to telling the stories of immigrants in New York City. The Gutiérrez family says it has been left without information or answers.
The teen was detained alongside 237 other Venezuelans on 24 February by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice). His father, Wilmer Gutiérrez, told Documented: “I feel like my son was kidnapped.”

Not just that. He’s most likely going to die because some nazi piece of shit thought they might as well arrest him, because he’s brown. This is only the beginning, and it’s going to get a fuckload worse until they get the same treatment.

You can’t assume the cop was a nazi, they were just following orders. Everyone has to follow orders in their job and are probably afraid of repercussions if they don’t follow through with their job after getting the orders mixed up by, for example, accidentally sent out the wrong plate of food, or an innocent teenager to an offshore death camp.

Of course, the situations are different. Nazi Germany had to be broken and the trials were conducted locally by the winners. Can’t just abduct high ranking military/politicians of foreign nations, that would set a bad precedent, and probably only work just exactly once. That’s why no-one is really giddy to arrest Putin or any of his boot lickers, too much unpredictable fallout, probably literal fallout.

The US is not a member of the Rome Statute, nor the ICJ. They’ve openly threatened those institutions with sanctions if they go after them or their citizens.
The ICJ/ICC are only for the powerless, fallen, disgraced. The big players just don’t follow those institutions’ orders, at best cherry-pick what to follow.

More proof that if you look too brown for Trump’s liking, it’s off to El Salvador for you. We need to start compiling a list of these people who were “mistakenly” deported and essentially sentenced to death with no due process or recourse.

We are now living in a world where you could leave your house to pick up your kids from school or something and end up in a South American prison literally before your family even has enough time to realize you’re gone, only to find that the only answer they’re going to get from the US government and our legal system is “Too bad, so sad, we fucked up, sucks to be you. Remember, this started with deporting “the illegals”. You know, rounding up the low-hanging-fruit that are sitting in prisons waiting for their trials, hearings, or whatever. Then Trump realized, “Hey, why stop there? Why not just go after everybody I don’t like?”.
And he’s already talking about doing this to US citizens. Which means very soon, it’s not just going to be the brown people. And by “very soon”, I mean I fully expect a US citizen to end up in El Salvador by month’s end. Probably white.

The first one’s probably won’t be. But I don’t think it’s too far off. I expect the first ones to be some random non white people who commited some indefensible crimes, or at least are accused of doing so. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go for people with terrorism charges so the next batch can be accused of terrorism as well to make the leap seem smaller. That they now define vandalism against tesla as terrorism will just help murky the waters to make the life sentence without judge or jury seem more palatable than it is every step of the way.
The men who actually go and arrest those people are individuals who individually decided to do what they knew was the wrong thing, when it mattered and it was all on the line.

It’s going to get a lot worse because now they know that they are able to deport/jail literally anyone without facing any resistance. If a case gets too big on the media, they can shift responsibility around in a circle, e.g. USA says it can’t do anything, El Salvador has to do something. And El Salvador says sorry can’t do anything. And so nothing is done, both USA and El Salvador get what they want and the justice system and the victims can’t do anything.
This will soon become routine because they will expand their list of “unwanted” persons constantly. First “gang members” and “criminals”, then sexual and other non-criminal minorities, then non-criminal political opposition, then potentially everyone who’s not super loyal to the fascist administration (aka cult).
What worries me is how fast it descends into madness. Any innocent American citizen should probably sooner, rather than later, be prepared to fight for themselves and their loved ones against injustice, because there might be no one left in the system doing it for them when the system itself has become unjust and/or dysfunctional. I hope that you somehow manage to turn the wheel around but when looking at the speed of Project 2025 and the Trump administration becoming increasingly more vile, I don’t think there’s much time left. And this is all happening in a time when humanity should work together, rather than continue fighting among themselves. Literally EVERYBODY in the world needed to resolve the issue of an innocent deportee was in that room. Nobody had to say “That sounds like a pretty good deal, let me speak to my boss for approval,” ALL the bosses were right there, and they kept passing the buck to each other.
