I brushed my teeth and then dissolved a zinc tablet in my mouth.

Afterwards I wondered, would the F- ion in the toothpaste combine with the Zn2+ ion in the tablet, which is not very soluble in water, and would neutralize both the teeth hardening and cold-fighting properties?

It says on the zinc bottle not to drink citrus juices but I cannot find any reliable information online that explains why.

I have no clue about your notstupidquestion but it’s inspired one of my own.

Why are you taking zinc? I was under the impression that intaking zinc is a terrible idea and should be avoided at all cost.

Maybe it’s specifically inhaling it that’s the issue? I’ve always heard this in a metallurgy context: that you should be careful heating up brass/welding galvanized steel etc because the zinc will turn into a fairly toxic gas.

Zinc is necessary for our body to make use of vitamine C. That’s why both are often combined in tablets.

The point is that fumes, zinc oxide nano particles, which are produced when welding brass or zinc coated metals are inhaled causing lung damage and zinc fever.

Specifically this form of zinc is not harmful to ingest in small doses. It may cause sight stomach upset, but seems to counteract viruses in the throat.

There was an inhalation version but it is no longer recommended because it causes loss of smell for some people.
