Transgender Reps Zooey Zephyr and SJ Howell delivered powerful speeches on the Montana House floor on Thursday. Republicans defected en masse to join them in voting against anti-trans bills.

    Oh what do you know? It’s almost as if representation in government has a purpose! Not so easy to target people when they’re not just a faceless boogeyman now is it?

    Love to see it, we need more of this everywhere.

    I’ve always been in favor of having a diverse group of people representing in government, but man this really drove the point home. Without those 2 those bills probably would’ve gone through and cause so much grief.

    This made me start uncontrollably weeping. Not for the performances by the trans representatives, but because all I have been seeing for the last 8 years is a downward spiral of our dehumanization. Then to see this number of Republican reps change their vote in a really unexpected place… This was really important. All we can hope for is that they don’t backslide. I don’t dare hope that this means any of their hearts have truly changed.

    public speaking works.

    I don’t know what to tell you, get out there and start talking to people, start talking with your representatives, make a case for what you believe in.

    Stop yapping and moping about shit online, go do some real work.

    Literally all we need is strong public speakers.

      Even if you’re not a good public speaker there are plenty of organizations that have people who are and you can join and help out with lots of other things. DSA is my personal choice as it’s pretty active and strong in my area but just find an organization like that and find a way you can help push for things you believe in.

        this, find organizations that need people, offer help, there are people who need your help, and what you do CAN impart change.

        Yapping online, historically, one of the least useful tools to convince people.

            If you want to understand the DNC’s relationship with trans people you have to ask yourself why Montana, Nebraska, and Oklahoma had openly trans legislators before California and New York (which still have never had any)

              Nothing to apologize for, it’s your phone and you can chose whatever font you want for it! The fact that you made an effort to add alt text was awesome and genuinely appreciated.

      Yeah, they’re too comfortable being on the wrong side of history. I hope that it is legitimate, but feels like a trap.
