Google appears to be preparing support for “time zone change” notifications on Android which may end up coming with Android 16.

We are not talking Daylight Savings Time are we? It would be great if we would just stick to one time and not change from savings to not savings. Japan, I think, split the difference, they went 1/2 hour and stayed there.

I struggle to see a reason for this, even with the example provided in the article. I think it would be annoying for folks who live at the edge of two zones, but I also think it will continue to be a setting that could be cycled.

Traveling full time in the USA, I have run into issues where I didn’t know I bopped on over to a new timezone. This is more important as my work hours always stay EST. I more than anything want a simple option to have my alarm go off at a time set with a specified timezone instead of off the time on my phone.

The example you have given actually highlights the need for notification. If you think the notification would be annoying, imagine your time changing automatically without you knowing!

I really appreciate your and @aeiou_ckr@lemmy.world replies. I live in an area where multiple time zones are part of life, but didn’t see how this could actually be beneficial. I’ve had to do some funky stuff to know what time it is, but like you say, I wouldn’t need to do that with this. Thanks for helping me see the importance of this!
