“The FCC chair is clearly undertaking an effort to bully and intimidate independent journalism, which is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes where democracy is under siege,” said one critic.

I can’t wait for all of the republicans at work to be told what to think. I’ll enjoy hearing how they try to sell me on PBS being biased.

I’m usually not big on hate and it seems like a lot of wasted effort. And I can generally understand where people are coming from even if I don’t agree with them.

But not this guy. I fucking hate him. I have never hated a person more in my entire life. He is the most useless piece of the most vile excrement and I will relish the day he is “shuffled off his mortal coil”.

Honestly Elon scares me a little more. He’s not a complete moron (don’t get me wrong he’s close) and can easily manipulate the other dude.

In my opinion, I’m not sure this country will last 4 years of this. I had forgotten the daily rage I felt in his first term and this seems worse. And we are less than three months in. And god forbid RFK is confirmed and we have another pandemic. It will not end well.

sadly, nothing new-- the last administration was directly funding and covering for israel’s extermination campaign- well over 200 journalists killed in the last year… but yes, this is more of the same in a more domestic and less murderous sense.

i expect to get ratio’d for bringing any semblence of balance to the discussion here. i’m no trump apologist, but democrats still have a lot to answer for, too.

Yes you are. Anytime you say ‘both sides are the same’, you’re just excusing the ways this administration is making things so much worse.

The Democrats suck, but saying they’re both the same despite drastic differences in magnitude is carrying water for trump to minimize the changes they’re making.

no, i’m not. i’m sick of the democrats only having energy when they’re out of power-- they chose to support genocide and bypass democracy to appoint their defacto choice for successor.

Yes, you are. It’s fine to take them to task, but don’t minimize the shit that’s going on now with that dismissive and objectively incorrect bullshit. It makes you look ignorant and uninformed about things when you incorrectly say they’re the same when they’re clearly much worse.

But whatever, I’m sick of arguing with BoTh SiDeS bullshit people. Bye.

Oh they’ve taken a step further than ‘both sides are the same.’ In order to support their argument, they are claiming in another part of this thread that Gaza has no people in it. They are actually trying to claim that Israel has killed literally every Palestinian in Gaza (presumably with Biden’s help) in order to avoid blaming the current administration for anything.

I’m really not surprised, these people didn’t seem super honest from the start. I’m just at the point where I call people on bullshit and block when they try to justify accelerationist or cryptofascist shit.

E: LOL mfer is tried to tone police the conversation when you called them out. Good on you for keeping on these people and showing just how unserious and obviously trolling they are.

                • They literally called out the dems several times in their comment and they never said they wouldn’t call them out.

They take issue with you saying that both parties are the same when clearly one is worse than the other.

To really try and cement this in your brain.

                  BOTH BAD, ONE WORSE.

You see how Trump is already giving Israel larger bombs. That’s worse for Palestine right?

Folks? This is the imperial boomerang. What we do overseas comes home!

Israel is the laboratory. What they test there will come back to us eventually. Do not be shocked when Trump drone strikes a “migrant caravan” or something.

“I am concerned that NPR and PBS broadcasts could be violating federal law by airing commercials,” Carr wrote. “I have asked the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau, with assistance from the FCC’s Media Bureau, to initiate an investigation into the underwriting announcements and related policies of NPR, PBS, and their broadcast member stations.”

Such an investigation is long overdue. My local NPR station broadcasts nothing but commercials.

It’s got to be. Listening to NPR has spoiled me to the point where I can’t listen to regular music stations anymore because of the commercials.

Not sure what practical difference there is between a sponsorship and an ad. Anytime I try to listen to my local public radio, each and every segment starts off with “this report brought to you by …blah blah blah…”

Do you never listen to any other radio stations? You know, like pretty much every other radio station out there that has a good 3-4 actual fully-produced (and often highly irritating) radio commercials every 15 minutes?

Also, please explain how public radio is supposed to survive without corporate underwriters. Especially now that the meager amount of federal funding they get is about to be taken away from them.
