Come back warm weather please, sick of being so cold
You are now not allowed to complain when the El Nino of the next 3 years sets record high temperatures and record consecutive high temperatures.
Enjoy the reprieve, the Earth is already in the hottest global months of all time and you are asking for more?
Even Murdoch can’t deny it: https://www.news.com.au/technology/environment/climate-change/recordhigh-global-temperatures-trigger-warning-2023-may-be-hottest-year-on-record/news-story/a0ddecb00b6aca00e338a154aaf00131
Prepare yourself.
But how else are we to wear great outfits?
Love this weather. Go through lip balms like they’re going out of fashion.
We hates winter…
No, cold must stay as long as possible. You can always put more clothing/blankets/heater on.
Everyone looks good with a jacket or sweater on anyways
Right? I’d love to wear a long coat all year round, but in Brisbane you’re lucky to get away with that for a couple of months, if you don’t mind still being sweaty sometimes.
I mean, that’s the part I hate about winter :)
Same. I hate layers
I’m over the summer maybe we should switch
Yeah…I like the cooler days and not having constant brain fog from the heat, but I started violently coughing like the asthmatic I am this morning and needed to dig out my Ventolin, so winter isn’t always a nice time.
I must prefer Winter to Summer. In Winter you can always pile more clothes on, so you can totally keep yourself warm in Winter for free. In Summer, once you take layers of clothes off there’s nothing else you can do. You are required to keep a fan or air con on at tall times, which costs money I do not have.
Therefore, Winter > Summer.

I want the LOOK of a grey cloudy winter day… I love that aesthetic
but with the heat of a nice summer day
and the extended daylight hours of summer too
the thing that bugs me is having to wear socks around the house because my house is on stilts and the only thing separating my wooden floor boards and the cold dirt underneath is an even colder coastal breeze blowing through.
what a problem to have … haha
i’m definitely a hoodie and shorts kind of person though so winter in brisbane is always a delight to be fair
I want summer in the morning and afternoon, but winter during the day.
Too cold to get moving in the morning at the minute, but then its perfect during the day… but once you get home after work its all dark and cold and gloomy.
If we need daylight savings anywhere its in winter I reckon. Give us some afternoon sunlight back. Sick of leaving for work in the dark and getting home from work in the dark.
If we need daylight savings anywhere its in winter I reckon
The problem with that is it would mean it’s still dark until like 8am. Really bad for people who want to do exercise in the morning.
(That’s in addition to all the terrible things about daylight saving time in general, in terms of public health outcomes and economics.)
But, is not that cold this winter at all???
“Not that cold” is still cold!
Is it though? I haven’t even busted out a jumper yet.
I tolerate a single layer at the best of times, only because society has opinions about the matter :)
Haha pesky social norms :( !
I’ve been wearing a jumper even on my morning ride to work a few times this year already, and arm socks since before that.
I’ll happily trade you
-Signed a Canadian.EDIT: Just looked at some local temps… Isn’t it like 15C in most places there? The lowest I see is ~9C. I understand Australia is a large place, but I don’t see many cold temps. Sorry if I sound rude, I don’t mean to, just curious.
EDIT EDIT: How hot does it usually get there?
How hot does it usually get there?
In summer if it reaches 34 that’s hot enough that people might complain, but it’s certainly not major newsworthy.
You’re right though, that our winter is a lot warmer than yours. As others have noted though, we’re not set up for it. I’ve heard from (Nordic) Europeans and Canadians who have said that the day-to-day experience of winter is actually worse here than in their homeland, because of a lack of good insulation and household heating in most homes.
its all relative.
i’ve spent time in colder climates but you don’t notice it as much because the houses are designed for the colder weather. the houses in australia typically are not designed for colder weather since it doesn’t get awfully cold for much of the year… so when it’s cold, you definitely notice it here.
for example I am sitting in my house with thick socks, track pants, shirt and hoodie on. the house is closed up, but as per my other comment I have no proper shielding from the elements. and its 21°C so its not even deemed as cold but in the shade where my home office is, its doesn’t warm up.
when I was in the UK, I would walk around the house in just boxers during the dead of winter when it was minus degrees outside.
edit: here’s some brisbane weather stats for you to mull over:
its all relative.
That’s fair. 21C is ideal temp for me, although I prefer colder for mostly the reasons some people mentioned below. You can dress up for winter… harder to strip down for the heat. There’s only so much that can come off before the police are called and you’re arrested :P
And I didn’t realize that the houses aren’t really made for the cold temps. Makes sense when you mention it though. Thanks for the answer, and sorry again if I came off as rude!
100% with you, prefer the cooler months for sure! the only downside is it makes it difficult to enjoy our beautiful beaches :) and you can only get arrested if they can catch you… haha
and definitely didn’t come off as rude! always happy to share details about how beautiful city that is Brisbane :)
beautiful city that is Brisbane
I have a cousin down that way, I might see if I can visit him one day and experience it.
I would say come visit the beautiful city of Winnipeg,… but 1: It’s not beautiful, and 2: no one wants to be in Winnipeg, not even Winnipeggers.

5° C here in Melbourne at the moment. As a chronic insomniac, I have been known to sometimes go walking around the suburb when I can’t sleep. Not tonight.
Lowest is 9C you’re right, would it be crazy for you to hear that inside is also 9C and potentially lower in some places?
