Btw this is absolutely not negotiable, if you support genocide or fascists you will be banned.

Are Nazis and Nazi sympathizers that common in this community? I would imagine in an explicitly leftist community they would only be here to troll or stir up shit …

No because I ban them, however sometimes people enter here without knowing this is a leftist community.

hm, just wondering who the reminder is for really; I mean the sidebar explicitly says it’s a space for leftists and the red and black make it pretty clear … nothing wrong with re-iterating, the reminder just makes me wonder if you’ve been having a bunch of Nazis come in here thinking they belong or something 😅

If you only read the name of the community and are immersed in the political landscape of the USA, this place could be seen as right-wing. When you see the first posts or read the sidebar that possible confusion does get cleared up pretty quickly though.

I could definitely see that, “liberty” has been appropriated by the right since at least the 1940s and perhaps especially since the 1970s. Someone would have to stay pretty unaware to continue thinking this isn’t a left-wing community, though 😅 Still, stranger things have happened.

We get a lot of liberals. Y’know, the Nazi-adjacent ideology well-known for enabling Nazis.

It’s hard because in the U.S. the political spectrum seems to mostly run from social liberal as the most common conception of “left” and until relatively recently with the rise of Trump and the “alt-right” the right was likewise draped in the ideological clothing of liberalism. Practically everything was liberalism, both “left” and “right”, so a term like “liberal” in the U.S. has become practically synonymous with “left-wing” despite the irony of that association.

So it’s hardly surprising that liberals would be common, it’s the starting place for everyone in the U.S.

Liberals in the US are distinctly right wing, however. They subscribe to capitalism, and starting with Clinton they’ve been nothing but fascist adjacent. Candidates like Bernie Sanders may be slightly more close to center, but it’s just wrong to say that the Democrats align with leftism in any way. They only appear leftist from the perspective of our unequivocally fascist party, the Republicans. Liberalism is also a far right ideology.

Yes, that was rather the point I was trying to make, more or less 😅

That it’s not that crazy that liberals are going to come into leftist spaces because they mistakenly think they are leftists. To be fair, I do think a lot of U.S. liberals who identify as progressives hold the broad ideals of the left and would be leftists if they knew more, but that’s a separate discussion.

I agree with you! I hope we can open up dialogs and make people more aware. I feel like the younger generations are doing better than mine, but we can’t just rely on them. I mostly try to be an example by helping neighbors and doing community service through my work.
