How long can the bullshit machine outrun reality? That’s going to be the defining question of the early 21st century. How long can we be tricked into letting the ultra-wealthy run our civilization into the ground?

Well, if the broligarchy can get full control of virtually all institutions, as well as media platforms and force the epistemic closure they so desperately crave, they can start shooting prominent members of the reality-based community (see how they talk about Fauci as a for instance), imprison some others, and silence all the others.

If the “free speech absolutists” that run things like xitter and FB do just enough, they might not have to resort to such drastic measures. Just never invite any reality-based people on television, and shadow ban anyone telling any inconvenient truths on major platforms. When liars like donvict talk about “fake news”, it’s because they are all about projection.

It’s already outrun reality. Trump voters either have no concept of reality, or they are willing to back Nazis and bigots in order to get a lower tax rate.

Read “The Ministry for the Future” if you want a hard-scifi look into what’s going to happen. Other countries, especially the global south, will have nothing to lose when they target the global oligarchs.

I’m sure it’s sadly longer than we think

I suspect the answer to that might be the same as to the classic question, “Can the markets stay completely insane and irrational longer than I can remain solvent?”
