The EU does not tend to wage wars with protective tariffs, those are already in place anyway, but by specifically hurting the interests (monetary, pissed-off voting base, etc) of those in charge. It’s how the last time around we ended up with tariffs on motorcycles and peanuts, last I checked Harley-Davidson still didn’t recover and the peanut butter in my next-door supermarket is still Dutch.
