A guy I studied with had a gene defect that prevented his body from producing proper amounts of antidiuretic hormone. He had to literally set his alarm at night to wake up to hydrate.

Your body retains water through the kidneys. Antidiuretic hormone (or vasopressin) is what tells your kidneys to hold onto water instead of discarding it into the bladder. Which is why you feel parched after a night out drinking, ethanol hinders the production of ADH. Multiply that by 25 and you have the poor dude.

Interesting but unfortunate. But they didn’t set their alarm to go to the toilet, where did all that liquid go? Is it true that it’s stored in the balls?

I used to get insatiable thirst in the middle of the night. Then I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and got my blood sugar under control and it doesn’t happen so much anymore.

Go and get checked for sleep apnea.

This was happening to me alot. Waking up multiple times a night, desperate for water, like, pints of it, then do a big wee and back to bed.

I started getting issue with staying alert and awake in the day, i was dozing off in work meetings (not fully, but like when your head dips and just jolt awake again)

If you dont have it, then great, mark that off the list.

If you do have it, get it dealt with because it’s bad for your heart as your body uses adrenaline to wake you when you stop breathing and leaving it untreated shaves years off your life.

If you let it go too far you can be suspended from driving and all sorts until you get it under control.

Every once in a great while I’ll suddenly awaken to violent, parched coughing from dehydration. It’s no fun at all, so I try not to go to sleep thirsty.

If you are getting super dehydrated overnight you might be diabetic, might want to get checked.

(Thats how I found out I was diabetic… that and the leg/foot cramps.)

Reminds me of this part in The Simpsons Guy:

    Meg: I matter.

    Lisa: Louder!

    Meg: I MATTER!!!

Peter: Shut up Meg, you don’t matter!
