On Wednesday, the U.S. was one of just a handful of countries to vote against a resolution in the UN General Assembly this week calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, despite the Biden administration’s supposed renewed efforts to obtain a ceasefire before Donald Trump is in office.
The resolution, which also called for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, passed the assembly 158 to 9, with 13 abstentions. Italy and Germany, which have previously abstained from similar votes, voted for a ceasefire for the first time, leaving the U.S. one of the only major world powers to not approve of a ceasefire resolution.
But I thought Biden wanted to make everything better? Isn’t he the good guy? /s
Remind me again why the US has veto power when an overwhelming majority of countries vote the other way?
Ever heard of a thing called World War 2? China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States all have Veto Power in the UN. In fact, China actually vetoed a gaza ceasefire agreement awhile back as well.
We should probably get rid of veto power, tbh.
And this is BEFORE we go full fascist.
Buddy, you’re not gonna believe this…

And that’s why the ICC warrants were important. Every bit of pressure helps until it tips over.

This is also why consumer boycotts are an easy and effective tool for action. Dont buy products from stolen land or companies that make business with the oppression or support the IDF. Especially for consumer goods like from McDonalds or Coca Cola, they are easy to replace and nothing is lost personally when not buying that stuff.
I’m on that Faygo time because of the BDS movement. I buy less soda these days anyways.
One more reason to lose hope in this country. I think I’m nearing the bottom of the proverbial barrel. Let’s shoot a few more holes in it for good measure.
Fuck Israel too.
Yes, I have lost all faith in the political process. Letting rich people pump as much money into elections as possible to get “their boy” elected was the final nail in the coffin.
All I can do now is focus on me, and those close to me. I pretty much ignore political discussion because the general discourse is so far removed from what would actually solve problems.
Perpetual war is good for business.
Even the Ferengi understood that peace is also good for business.
the ferengi are moral giants when compared to any recent US administration - and, with the 2024 election, perhaps the us as a whole. :-|
Quark : I think I figured out why Humans don’t like Ferengi.
Sisko : Not now, Quark.
Quark : The way I see it, Humans used to be a lot like Ferengi: greedy, acquisitive, interested only in profit. We’re a constant reminder of a part of your past you’d like to forget.
Sisko : Quark, we don’t have time for this.
Quark : You’re overlooking something. Humans used to be a lot worse than the Ferengi: slavery, concentration camps, interstellar wars. We have nothing in our past that approaches that kind of barbarism. You see? We’re nothing like you…we’re better.
We know all about your ‘root beer’, your ‘atom bombs’…
I didn’t vote for this.
If you voted for a democrat or republican you did vote for this
Good thing I didn’t vote for a democrat or republican.
Technically not a partisan issue, then. Maybe if people voted differently in the 2020 primaries.
