Looks like his desk is a great place to use the bathroom instead!
The irony is Mr. Garrison is trans in later seasons…
I think it should be said. I went to a reading of the names this year, as I have in some form every year since 2015; and I’ve never seen so many children’s names read. For context, the names are of the people murdered in transphobic hate crimes in the past year. It used to be a notable tragedy when a 15 year old was driven to suicide and this year we had multiple 14 year olds dead by others’ hands.
Speaker Johnson doesn’t care though. I’m sure he’d say his behavior today was in those children’s best interests, but no the transphobia he is promoting is killing children both by emboldening bigots and by driving them to hopelessness.
I hope someday he has to stand before his victims and a deity and explain himself. I hope he begins acting in a way so as to make it a less unpleasant experience when he gets to that point.
I hope someday he has to stand before his victims and a deity
He won’t.
The bad guys are winning. Simple as that.
Any repercussions will have to be earthly. Hope we can make that happen. But at this point I’m gonna go with “probably not”, since we just elected a felon and rapist who is now guaranteed to get away with his crimes.
Nex Benedict was murdered, and the state covered it up. There was an immediate attempt by bad actors on the far right (Alex Jones/4chan/etc) to spin a suicide narrative. State coroner is a governor appointed position in Oklahoma. Owasso just had a federal investigation into not just the queer bashing, but serious issues with neglecting children with disabilities and covering up sexual abuse by teachers.
The kid was murdered, it was covered up, and no one seems to care.
This isn’t just ignorant, it’s also a complete waste of taxpayer dollars and good will. Do something that matters, Johnson.
Do you REALLY want him to do something he thinks matters?
Uh, good point.
Ignorant, a waste of tax money, good will, AND downright malicious.
Do something that matters
I challenge anyone reading this to point out a time Republicans did something that mattered (positively) at any point so far in the 21st century.
You expect better from Trumps little Johnson?
“…it’s also a complete waste of taxpayer dollars and good will. Do something that matters…”
TBF, I’m pretty sure he’s choosing to do this so he doesn’t have to do something that matters. Bread and circuses minus the bread.
Petty in a very child minded way, like a 10 year old bully. This is the next 4 years. Petty, greedy children ruining everything.
A society with a majority of voters who are petty, greedy, ruining everything.
Not their fault. Don’t hate the non-wealthy ones, pity them.
They’re deluded to be that way by the owner’s for profit media propaganda and captured public education teaching us all that reveling in
greed“rational self-interest” and being a rugged individual instead of a member of a society is the only way to live. You have to think critically (something most aren’t taught until college by design) and actively buck that programming to actually see the reality for what it is.There used to be something called the social contract, but that was set on fire so long ago with the false delusion lie impressed onto us by the owners of one day becoming the millionaires inflicting ourselves on society, many don’t even know the term.
Not their fault. Don’t hate the non-wealthy ones, pity them.
Why? Why should I pity adults who make awful decisions that degrade the quality of all our lives? I didn’t receive some special education. I wasn’t privileged. But I didn’t end up stupid enough to do what they’ve done. They vote the way they do because they’re intellectually lazy and choose to prize emotion over facts. That’s not some rich person’s fault. That’s not the media’s fault. That’s THEIR fault. It’s wrong to try to excuse that for them.
We aren’t talking about children here. We’re talking about grown ass adults.
I understand people are desperate, but desperation doesn’t just make you a drone to be impressed upon by the wealthy and manipulative. Being lazy, or weak, or hateful does. You don’t need some higher education to understand right from wrong.
Some North Koreans see Kim Jong Un as a literal deity, because that is what they are indoctrinated to “know.”
Some people have smart parents that help them, some people are naturally gifted, some people see the horror capitalism inflicts from an early age at a personal level that overrides the programming, but our nation is captured by the capital market, as its education system.
They probably aren’t fixable, but our millions upon millions of willfully ignorant capitalism worshippers voting and advocating directly against their own interests were made, not born that way. They are the default, the ideal laborer, from the owner’s perspective, the kind that accepted their lies as self-evident, including hatred for anyone but devout capitalist market worshippers.
Your rank and file Republican voter was just a kid of average intelligence or below, fashioned into a soldier for big capital to maintain the exploitation they themselves are also subject to in perpetuity.
But if that isn’t enough, the most important reason to pity the poor ignoramuses is this:
The owners WANT those intelligent and equipped enough with critical thinking and reasoning to hate and fight the caste of ignoramuses they’ve made. That is a feature not a bug, because so long as the ones that can see this crony capitalist system for what it is hate the ignorant masses that defend it against their own interests, and vice versa, we’ll never have the ability to rise up against them. It’s yet another layer of control.
By hating the victims of capitalist indoctrination, rather than understanding they are victims too and a painful symptom of the disease that lives in capital markets, you’re doing exactly what the owners want. Those with hundreds of millions in exploited capital are our actual enemy, debating/fighting the legions of their lobotomized victims/useful idiots is a sideshow.
Those people are a blight, don’t get me wrong, but if there is a solution at all, it’s bypassing them and fighting the tiny class of people that created them, easily identifiable by the way, as they love to be on Forbes lists that show off their ego scores.
Almost always, if you want to know who the real problem/perpetrators are, you need only identify who’s holding the big bag of loot thanks to the situation. Ho dunk Cletus in the trailer park may have voted for Trump twice, but he is not a beneficiary, just a cultist who isn’t bright enough to understand he’s a cultist.
I mean I wholeheartedly agree with everything you’re saying except the fault not ultimately being on the average voter.
We don’t live in the dark ages. All information is freely available to all voters. That information is power. Power that we’re choosing not to wield or wielding irresponsibly.
Now, you can argue that in places like North Korea, that isn’t true. They’re under lock and key. Although I do believe they have some concept of an outside world and what’s available in that outside world. And regardless of whether you’re under a regime that’s limiting information, you can still determine if your life sucks. Even without any outside stimulus to act as a basis of comparison.
This isn’t a regime…yet. We have access to the data. We have the power to vote. It’s our fault for not using the tools provided to us responsibly.
On one hand, yes, sure.
But on the other hand, those people have instant access to worldwide knowledge in the palm of their hand just like you and I do. They are misled, but they are also choosing (even if subconsciously) to wallow in their cynicism and hatred with the slightest bit of permission from their echo chamber.
pity them.
yeah brb going to pity the person that lives in a continual state of anger and madness, only feeling hope and positivity at a trump rally, real quick.
If it makes you feel better, everything was already ruined.
The best case scenario was continued crony capitalist dystopic hellscape with the poor’s lives being burned up in subservient subsistence to our modern pharoah oligarch class… but you know with identity affirming ribbons and pins and stuff.
Now we get all the oligarch stuff with… concentration camps and death squads and stuff.
Either way, the owners win, they don’t care. Their mistresses will always have abortion on tap, their nepo children will always have their identities affirmed, elections are simply for the poors to either inflict supplimental cruelty on other poors or not to give us the illusion of choice and keep us hating one another instead of looking up at our owners.
This country was ruined irreparably in the 1980s, a few Tuesdays ago was just a reminder of that reality.
“crony capitalism” implies that there’s a version of capitalism which doesn’t lead to oligarchy.
Technically even the nordic nations have capitalism, they just have it straightjacketed/heavily regulated to benefit society. High taxes no one resents because they are educated to understand that everyone benefits from a society where everyone is educated to their potential and taken care of.
Allowing capital into governance as we did and do will always lead to the crony market capitalist economy capturing, straightjacketing, and exploiting society for private profit.
Campaigns should have always had public funding, with attempting to bribe, oh I’m sorry, “donate to” elected officials being treated with the same severity as first degree murder considering you want to change society to benefit only yourself.
But that ship has sailed.
Yes some countries do the equivalent of using a screwdriver to hold the demon core apart but that doesn’t mean that the natural forces at play aren’t extremely destructive.
Everyone’s arm gets tired eventually.
I’m on your side, and believe society should assist its people from those most in need. I’m a democratic socialist, and would be open to communism if automated resource gathering like robotic agriculture became sufficiently of age.
That said, the Nordic models are the easiest sell to eventually get there, as there is hard data that they are the happiest societies on Earth reliably by a mile.
If you can’t sell the the idea that the point of a society is to maximize the wellbeing of its citizens, and the Nordic countries objectively do it best of all existing models going by the data, then there is just no reasoning our way out of our own self-imposed extinction.
There really isn’t a more powerful argument I’ve encountered with concrete data to get others to realize that “the free market” isn’t their friend and regulation and taxation is if you’re a regular member of a society that doesn’t have aspirations of global economic conquest.
You want to be happy? You want your neighbors to also be happy? You want your kids to be happy? You don’t like living around tons of miserable homeless people and want them to be happy and housed rather than dying in front of your apartment complex? Nordic model let’s fucking go.
Idealistically I’m an anarchist, but practically I agree with you too. If we reach that point everywhere I’ll keep pushing, or if the revolution is coming I’ll jump ship, but for all intents and purposes we’re close allies :)
It’s ruined for them too. The stuff they love is also doomed to fall apart; sooner than they think. Sooner than most people are willing to admit. Good luck to whatever life remains.
It’s ruined for their children and theirs, but you don’t become a 9 figure millionaire or billionaire by loving anyone else like your children, only yourself.
The 28 thousand 100-million-plus inaires on earth we all serve one way or another have no national allegiance, and will simply vacation from whatever temperate climate is left that accepts currency to the next until complete ecological collapse from their own fine work in 20-40 years.
Then yeah, they’ll retreat to their luxury bunker complexes and sip expensive whiskey under the world they destroyed, probably nonsensically blaming the poors they mercilessly exploited for ruining the planet as they’ll never self-reflect on their own avarice and sociopathy.
As I said, modern pharoahs, so of course they have decadent tombs at the ready.
All the nice things in the world won’t save them from themselves. When the collapse truly begins, and the walls start closing in, they’ll be feeling it. Narcissistic collapse writ large. There isn’t an amount of money large enough to save them from the simple fact that they are as human as the rest of us. And those bunkers will be overthrown, or turned into tombs.
I want them to be the last survivors of a dead world. It’s what they deserve. Kings of nothing. Behold my works ye mighty and despair!
This is in direct response to the first openly transgender member of congress being elected. This is a targeted attack against Sarah McBride.
The cruelty is the point.
So unisex bathrooms aren’t a thing, aka, normal bathrooms?
Also the dismantling of government agencies begins! First step, OSHA!
PDF Warning: 1-800-321-OSHA (6742) 1 www.osha.gov A Guide to Restroom Access for Transgender Workers
I was in Europe and they had full unisex bathrooms. There were only stalls and the dividers were floor to near 8 feet. And no gaps you could see through on the doors. It was no big deal, everyone just did their thing and left.
The only place I’ve experienced this in the US is Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Some of their restrooms are exactly like you describe. Full height stalls (small rooms basically) with a shared sink area. Literally no one I saw has had an issue with it. You just go, wait in line with everyone else, and take a stall when your turn comes. No issue and no confusion. There is no reason this can’t be the norm in the US.
There’s a brewpub/restaurant in my city that has a similar setup.
I’ve never heard anyone complain about it. Most are surprised for a couple of seconds the first time, but just carry on with no problems.
As a german I have never seen this but whichever country is doing that has things figured out.
To be clear we do still have proper stalls, it’s just that bathrooms are always gendered unless it’s a really small place that only has one toilet in the first place.
That’s how the states are, but also the stalls tend to have a 1/4 to 1/2 inch (.6-1.25cm) gap at the sides and on the door. So you don’t have much privacy, plus there is often no indicator of weather it’s occupied or not. So you end up awkwardly kinda seeing if someone is in there by checking the gap but also trying not to see what you don’t want to see
I knew about the gap but… no indicator either??? Are they at least locked so the worst case scenario is thay awkward moment where you try to open a locked bathroom stall?
I’m planning on visiting next year so I guess I’ll see the reality of it. Maybe I’ll have to avoid public toilets even more than usual lol
Yea, there’s always a latch of some sort.
I’ve been to venues in New England where the formerly gendered restrooms are unisexed with just signs–something along the lines is “unisex with urinals” and “unisex without urinals”. Sometimes the change is just for an event, sometimes it’s more permanent. It just works.
Also the dismantling of government agencies begins!
That’s going to be the thing that really fucks us going forward. If our democracy survives at all, we’ll spend a significant amount of time and energy rebuilding what was dismantled. That means less time and energy on general progression.
When Trump won the first time I knew it really meant we were going to see less progress in our lifetimes. Now we’re going to see even less.
And it’s our own fault. Because we’re generally very stupid.
It was black people.
Then it was gay people.
Now it’s trans people.
And we voted for this.
America is trash.
No, America is not trash. But the United States recognized the need for guard rails after the bus plunged.
No, America is not trash.
How much do you know about US history?
Removed by mod
Sorry bud, from here up north, America is trash.
it never recognized the need for guardrails, but it thinks we never got close, because nobody fucking knows anything.
Petty pathetic and normal for the GOP. Too bad they did not pass a Nazi bathroom ban but I guess to close to home.
What a prat. As a member of Gen X, I’m deeply ashamed. We were supposed to be the first generation not to care about people’s gender and sexuality.
We were supposed to be the first generation not to care about people’s gender and sexuality.
Many of us got there.
Unfortunately there are some in every generation who ate a bit too much glue in their formative years.
Hey now, I used to love library paste, and I didn’t grow up to be a hateful bigoted asshole. Hateful and an asshole, yes, but not bigoted.
as a member of Gen X, I’m deeply ashamed.
Considering you’re Joe Rogan’s generation, I can see why.
Perhaps I read too many stories where humans are past this kind of bigotry. I hope so much for such a time—some day. But living amidst the constant hate and bigotry… it hurts so much. It’s so very tiring.
Sorry, but us hairless chimps will forever be scared of the other hairless chimps on the other side of the hill.
Some perhaps. Not all. And not all to the same degree. It’s something we can work to move beyond. That ability is also human nature.
At some point, you’re fighting evolution and lizard brains. Some people can overcome their prejudices, but expecting the world’s human population to be able to overcome that fight or flight response to strangers is probably not something achievable.
Yeah, but us hairless chimps didn’t have the internet before. Our primate brains weren’t ready for weaponized misinformation in the palm of our hands.
It’s probably going to get worse.
Whites only bathrooms within 20 years I bet.
Try more like January 21st.
This is really an awful wasteful thing to do. Especially on a day like that. It’s really disturbing how little empathy some people seem to hold. I fucking hate Americans (as an American) :c
Does Mike Johnson have a johnson? How do we even know?
Let the inspections begin (edit: with “him”)
