I had an apartment where the landlord had clearly painted right before I moved in, and had done so with an ungodly thick layer of latex paint. That’s fair enough for the walls… I hope it wasn’t to cover up mold, but he was very thorough. He did paint over the outlets and some hinges too. But even worse he also painted the bathtub/shower combo. Like… the whole thing, including the sloped interior basin of the tub.

Not only is that fucking weird, it’s also a major hazard as ot turns out. Did you know that latex paint is very slippery when wet? I do now. Had to cover the bottom of the tub in adhesive strips of traction tape to not crack my skull open. What’s more, latex paint is not meant to be applied to bathtub, nor is it meant to be bombarded with hot water every day for months on end. So as you can imagine, shortly after moving in, paint would periodically bubble up and chip off

By the time I moved out, a little over a year later, almost all of the paint had peeled off the bottom surface of the tub revealing the heavily lime scale stained surface they tried to cover up. So glad they tried to kill me with a frictionless curved bathtub bottom rather than to replace, properly clean or even just leave the bathtub as is.

      landlord

      Slumlord… This screams “investment property”

If I ever have a tenant (might buy a 2 family and rent one) I plan to treat tenants with respect and decency.

Hire someone to do it right or do it right yourself.

I rent. Got mold in the bathroom. Talk to my landlord and worked a deal to just paint it myself with good quality paint. Took me like 3 hours on a weekend and I got to keep the leftover supplies/tools.

Hopefully i get good tenants and ill treat them like family. Stick around and don’t fuck up my house please.

I rented out my condo while I was doing my MSc in another province - I wanted to hold on to the place, and couldn’t on a student stipend. I had bought it when I was working in industry and making good coin.

it’s hard to find half decent renters, but if you can, they’re amazing

is that what that is? I’ve been in the same place for a couple years now and the bathtub has slowly been peeling away during that time. The peeled paint clogs the drain so I have to clean it out every couple weeks (I did add a drain catch thing but it’s not perfect)

People noticed that in her old Twitter profile picture, the wall behind her had some heavy black mold. This led some people to joke how the mold controlled her brain and caused her personality change, making her transphobic

I remember in the final Harry Potter book, after Voldemort is defeated Peeves (the ghost thing) sings a song about how Voldy has “gone moldy.” Yet another thing he and Joanne have in common these days.

Seems like it wasn’t actually mold, but JK still sucks although that was great:

Somewhere in the distance they could hear Peeves zooming through the corridors singing a victory song of his own composition:

We did it, we bashed them, wee Potter’s the One,

And Voldy’s gone mouldy, so now let’s have fun!

‘Really gives a feeling for the scope and tragedy of the thing, doesn’t it?’ said Ron, pushing open a door to let Harry and Hermione through.

We would never paint blue over mold. We would use a grey primer as a base. Then use a neutral color so as not to offend anyone.

I’ve lived in one rented house that wasn’t entirely magnolia, and that was when I rented my nan’s house to help pay towards her nursing home costs.

Other than that: yep, fucking magnolia.

Brilliantly, not all magnolia is equal. Scratched the wall in my current house, so went out and got a tester of Dulux magnolia to patch it up. It’s a slightly lighter shade 😐

          Good old nan…

And that’s fucking classic… 😂 Tbf if it was me, I’d probably have just used the lighter shade and then lightly applied some tea or maybe even a light dusting of dirt to get it to “could easily be missed if not pointed out” lol though that wouldn’t work in most of the rooms in my place now, since it’s all artex wallpaper (painted magnolia, of course) so any scratches would be visible in the texture, if not in the paint 😑😭😂
