Mongolian officials “have the obligation” to arrest Vladimir Putin if he visits the country next week, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has said.

The trip, expected to happen on Tuesday, will be the first time the Russian leader has visited an ICC member nation since the court ordered his arrest in March 2023.

Superpowers? China and what else? You mean the country up north that can’t finish their 3 day operation in Ukraine has no economical or geopolitical significance and no one put them in corner only because they have nukes?

Good job pushing irrelevant pro-CCP propaganda into an article and comment section that had literally nothing to do with “America bad”

My guy, the top level comment was making a joke about Genghis Khan/Mongolia’s history, and the article doesnt even mention China. You’re the one who magically interpreted it with zero basis as an attack on Dear Leader’s sensibilities.
If your allegiance were any more transparent, you’d be a piece of glass. Please find your brain sometime soon, it misses you. This thread is over and my block list grows by one!

Dude… what? China is very much a belligerent superpower. Your whataboutism abt the US has literally nothing to do with the topic of discussion as it has no bearing on this geopolitical situation, whereas China DIRECTLY NEIGHBORS the nation in question, is routinely aggresive towards western-allied nations like the Phillipines (or momgolia), and tends to side with Russia over western institutions. Are you being purposely obtuse, or are you just that dense?

            Ackchually it’s 中国共产党

The translation could go either way, which is why it was both CCP and CPC before CPC was the officially commented version. The old one has just stuck around since it’s a grammatically equivalent moniker, and nobody really cares. It’s not even disrespectful.

Well, yes, it is the common term used in america. I believe I covered the quirk of transliteration that lead to it’s use. Ergo, american-english affiliated media will likely use the term used in america. Other media will, obviously, use the transliteration common to their culture.

What genocide is China currently partaking in?

If you are going to attempt to spread misinformation about the Uyghur Genocide not being a genocide, I’m going to tell you right now as a moderator to not start with that.

Why hasn’t West Taiwan gone to war over Taiwan and the South China Sea? Because they are a Paper Tiger and know they would be embarrassed by the US Navy. That’s why the US shows up to every “minor dispute”, to keep the peace and support their allies. Additionally, China has recently been extremely belligerent concerning the border with India, which is a continuation of what has been happening since the 1960’s.

Historically, you’ve also forgotten the CCPs military actions against Tibet, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, and the many border conflicts with Russia/USSR.

As for genocides, it is very convenient for you to forget about the Uyghurs…

Folks who clapped like seals at the formation of NAFTA and the EU are forever mad and extremely nationalist the moment Ulaanbaatar and Beijing start engaging in a little cross-border economic development. The Mongolian Central Corridor has the opportunity to dramatically improve the livelihoods of millions of people, and the western response is to bankroll domestic terrorists to blow that shit up.

Of course, these are the same idiots and assholes who staunchly defend a 9/11 every day in the Gaza strip. The Online American is far and away the most propagandized creature on earth.

So disappointed to discover that BBC updated the headline and the article (and no more than six hours later)…

New headline: Ukraine calls on Mongolia to arrest Putin ahead of visit

An ICC spokesperson told the BBC that Mongolian officials “have the obligation” to abide by ICC regulations, but clarified that this did not necessarily mean an arrest had to take place.

The agreement says in some circumstances, states may be exempted from the obligation to carry out an arrest where they would be forced to “breach a treaty obligation” with another state or where it would violate “diplomatic immunity of a person or property of a third state”.

I run my own self-hosted single-user instance (edit: I should add that it’s a pyfedi instance and you can learn more about it by visiting the flagship at piefed.social ), and I wanted to do so for free (or at least not spending any additional dollars on it - so not counting the old laptop that I bought ages ago and the internet I already pay for to, I don’t know, do gmail and youtube since I already have those anyways) - so I ended up with this funky instance name since srv.us guarantees you a permanent name but you don’t really get to choose it. I figured the username should probably match, so…

NCD on reddit had the idea of just putting him on a plane straight to USA, as there would be little to no possibility of China or Russia firing on a plane holding Putin.

So will Mongolia lose its ICC rights when it doesn’t, or will they just feign attempt to feign a “we tried to arrest him, but he got away damnit!”?
