This is I believe what it would be at if it had raised with inflation after the last change to it. If I remember correctly. Which is yeah, wildly off what is stated here

Edit: frezik below found what it was.

If I’m understanding what your saying here the last time the federal minimum wage increased was 2009, adjusted for inflation 7.25 in 2024 is 10.60.

Hm, you know it might’ve been about fast food workers in Cali then. I just do remember something about $23 coming from just inflation.

Also could’ve been whenever minimum wage was at it best adjusted.

The argument was that the $7.25 minimum wage in 2009 was already criminally low, and should have been $15. That would be $22.32 now. The actual minimum wage has not been changed since.

The post specifies productivity gains since 1960, though. That’s a different measure than inflation, but it’s interesting that they arrive in about the same place. There’s been a huge gap between average wages and productivity increases over that time period. It’s not like the working class was even getting their fair share in 1960, and they sure as hell aren’t now.

You’re probably thinking of the effort to raise the minimum wage to $15. Which has been going on long enough that inflation pushes that well over $20.

This isn’t the same measure, though. It’s taking productivity–how much each worker outputs per hour–and applies that to what the minimum wage should be. There’s a huge gap in that time between productivity and how much workers are actually making.

At least, I think that’s how they’re calculating it. Haven’t done the math.

You don’t have to look far to find America’s modern day colonial interests. You find them in the coal fields of Appalachia, the farm lands of the midwest, the factories where urban poor work, and the prison labor that maintains our infrastructure. Yeah. We enjoy a higher quality of life than the middle eastern countries where our military contractors don’t even try to hide their hatred for the working class, but we’re still the feudal serfs serving our lords. Like. Tell me. What would happen if every CEO didn’t come into work tomorrow? Everyone’s businesses would run just fine. What would happen if every laborer didn’t come into work? Society completely shuts down and the police come to beat us down.

What does that tell you about the relative value of both groups work output? And who gets paid? The CEOs. Why? Because they’re stealing from us. And like… We should go on general strike. I mean. Really break shit. What’s even the point of all this? What function does the government serve. They’re rearranging deck chairs while the world burns down. There’s a real and present threat that all of us will die in 5 years. And still their main focus is on a whole bunch of nonsense that is completely unrelated to anything we need to keep going. Why the fuck are we subsidizing oil? What the fuck are we giving Israel weapons for? Is the goal just to kill as much of West Asia as possible so there’s fewer resources for the rest of the mouths we need to feed?

We deserve to all die in 5 years because we as a society suck so much billionaire cock for the right to eat that we “don’t have time” to stop sucking and fucking because we’re happy enough with what comes out if their dicks we fight eachother for the privilege. The fact that there aren’t viral videos of people killing them is proof we don’t deserve this world, we can’t even do it to save our species, so fuck it, let us all die.

This stance is called doomerism. I’m not a fan. I sympathize with where you’re coming from, but I won’t co-sign mass suicide. Let’s instead take direct action and start doing things that slows down the machine of capital. Let’s illegally occupy airport tarmacs. Let’s protest genocides even when presidential nominees call us pro-terrorism. A little bit, if they’re gonna say we’re pro-terrorism, let’s consider the possibility of doing some terrorism. We’re gonna get blamed for it either way. Let’s realize the LA riots were a political uprising. Let’s also realize just how effective the LA riots were, and how much more effective they coulda been if everyone got in on the action

I’m sorry but people are already doing that and it’s not working. Billionaires get richer, temperatures get hotter, people get poorer. The masses will tolerate literal shock collar enslavement so long as it “pays the bills” and keeps them alive, otherwise we’d actually be doing something by now. Never underestimate how much people will tolerate things getting horrible, and being that we’ve blown past the 1.5C limit this year we’re basically already fucked. Anything short of a viral trend to burn down gated communities and humiliating public executions for any and every CEO or billionaire until they get the message, to get people to understand that society functions better without them (because we do all the work), anything short of that is not enough. I’d we can’t do that to save our species and countless others, so be it.

We tolerated the dust bowl when they poisoned fruit with kerosene and the ones responsible faced zero justice. It’ll only get worse.

I just took a pay cut to move to 27/ hr and they revoked over time. It’ll be a straight miracle if i don’t lose my vehicle to the bank. Ah the American dream, alive and well.

But hey, did you hear the economy is doing great?? Apparently I’m just lazy 🤷

That link is basically responsible for solidifying my beliefs that leftists are correct about labour regulations and the economy when I was a young adult. I showed it to a friend some time later, and he quite literally told me “millennials discover Marxian surplus value extraction from the working class”. Truer words have never been spoken

Too bad the gravel institute started a patreon and then disappeared without telling its subscribers anything.

I don’t believe they were out to scam anyone, and I believe they were actively trying to do good, but they ran terrible comms after they shut down.

Canadian living on the west coast in (sighs) Vancouver. The living wage is $25.68 CAD as opposed to the minimum wage of $17.50, a difference of $8.18 which is about $286.30 per work week (35 hours) and short by $1,145.20 per month ($13,742.40 per year).

I have to say though, this screenshot by itself is useless. Living wages change between municipalities and provinces/states. Not to mention countries.
