Amazing cars and I built one to a very high standard back in the day, but being a bit niche and old parts are an absolute bitch to source and for the prices they command you either need to LOVE the CRX or you’re better off building an EG or EK hatch.
My first car was an EG VX hatch and everything on it was manual except for the brakes. The VX is similar to an HX as they were tuned for fuel efficiency with VTech and was rated at 56mpg, but I got 48 mpg.
62mpg freeway 30 years ago. Reflect on how fucking short-sighted the choices that have been made are.
That was my first car. It was my dad’s car and he then offered it to me when I got my licence.
I loved it and been a Honda groupie since then. Later when I got older I bought my first (and last) new car, the CRX sister, the Honda CRZ. It was really cool too, less Vtec than the CRX but still cool.
Now I don’t own a car anymore as I don’t need it (walkable city dude), but one day I’ll buy an S2000 just for the pleasure.
Must be nice to be little. There’s a lot of sports cars I don’t fit in; the S2000, sky/solstice, z car (older). At 6’4, I was shocked that I fit perfectly inside an MX-5, and 30 minutes later it was mine. It was the easiest car decision I ever made. And I’ve had a lot of fun cars.
I’m 183cm (1m83) so that’s 6’ I believe. It never bothered me in the CRX/Z or MX-5. Neither some of our really small cars we have in Europe like Fiat Panda, Renault Twingo etc.
Except the CRZ back seats but those were jokes, it’s more like a 2 adults + 2 kids car rather than a 4 seater.
Now I need to try an S2000 😎
I got in a Saturn sky redline (opel GT) and I fit in the height of the car, but my knees were wedged tight around the steering wheel. I wouldn’t have been able to turn, AT ALL. Which is a shame because I’ve heard that car was a blast. But I now finally have my lightweight rwd 2 seater convertible, and I love it to death. My Corvette wasn’t a problem as it was made for fat, rich Americans. But that didn’t drive anything like the ND MX-5. And I like the Mazda a lot more. Can’t explain why, but I just do.
Really bold design in the rear, very reliable and has held up great IMO. I see one every couple of months and still get excited every time.
The CRX imo was the closest anyone got to matching the GTI as the hot hatch
The beauty is in its super lightweight architecture. Unfortunately safety standards and luxury expectations of today would never allow such a lightweight car ever again.
On average the most fun vehicle I ever owned. Was a pleasure to drive every time

Great car. Echoes of it to this day in the original Insight 2 door, and the CR-Z. I hope Honda continues to use this form factor in a future EV.

20 years ago, stereo people raved about how great it was for building a sound quality setup. I never had the opportunity to try.
I don’t remember ever seeing one in good repair. Not sure if they were just shitboxes made out of cardboard or if they were bought by the kind of people who just don’t take care of their property, but I associate the Honda CRX with a bag taped over a busted window, bald tires, peeling paint and the muffler dragging on the ground.
