What it change
Sync for Reddit pro cost me €2.69 in 2015. €23 is a bit of a step up.
Yeah. I paid for Sync Pro and I’d gladly pay again (even though I’ve pretty much settled for Kbin), but I was expecting something like €4.99 not €21.99. Call me cheap but I’m not doing that.
Lemmy has maybe 0.1% of the users Reddit has.
The dev can’t rely on tens of thousands of people paying a dollar, he needs thousands of people to pay ten dollars. Or whatever the equivalent is.
I feel like $10 would be a lot more reasonable than the $25 it costs here.
True, probably to adjust to how much the subscription model makes.
If you’ve ever used Infinity for Reddit, there is a version for Lemmy that just released too. It has no ads and is opensource.

Pihole at home is blocking it so far. I’d like to pay the developer when the price is a bit more in range.
Thanks, I saw it in another thread and installed it earlier. I’m mostly using Thunder because earlier it was the only client with haptic feedback, but it’s a bit rough around the edges. I used to use Infinity for Reddit before.
I don’t mind paying more since Lemmy is a smaller market but I’ll wait for a sale I think.
I’m still probably going to hold out for Boost for Lemmy to come out, so I’m just on the $2/mo plan right now.
That’s cool. 60 cent can of tomato soup now costs $3.50
My rent went from $850 to $2300
Do you think you should pay 2015 prices in 2023?
I expect the price to increase for sure. But still, I’ve got options and can choose.
No one said you can’t. Just don’t be surprised when prices aren’t 2015 prices.
You can now make a one-time purchase to remove ads. You can find the option below the account switcher.
£19 OTP! WTF! Ljdawson tell me this is a mistake…

It did not cost me $26 CDN. Maybe $8.
Hi fellow Canadian! Tell me, how much has your grocery, gas, and rent prices increased?
Notice how everything is more expensive? And you expect a developer to keep up with old pricing?
Inflation is awful. Gas as gone up 18%. Food about 20%. But $8 to $26 is a percentage increase of 225%.
I don’t find your example valid, sorry.
which makes a $20 app purchase wayyyyyyy harder to swallow imo. I bought lifetime ultra since I got so many years of sync for Reddit for like $2, but I can definitely see how it’s a hard sell for most
I paid £12.99?
Tell me how
That’s not the “Remove Ads” option. Press the Lemmy icon and it’s under there.
Ahhh, 18.99 I see, bit steep to remove ads. What is going on with the monetisation of this app
I paid £12.99. Maybe they increased it after I purchased.
Oh shit that was quick
Crazy how when it updated this morning, pay to remove ads was 12.99. I went back in and it’s now 19.99. Crazy.
That’s 30CAD.
I like the app, nowhere that much tho.
exactly. I think the dev is banking on all the craziness for an app, why not charge more for the early birds. Strike while the fire is hot. Good for him, but yea, I’ll wait. Lemmy itself isn’t that full grown yet to warrant it either.
$12.99 is an annual subscription that gets you no ads, auto-translate and some other features.
$19.99 is one time, lifetime payment for no-ads only.
That $12.99 was for a year subscription and is still available as an option. $19.99 is the buy-once and have ads removed forever.
nope. it was the same ‘remove ads’ button. same functionality, just higher price. There is only one option.
The buy once option literally just appeared like an hour ago. The update just went live and didn’t exist before this update.
the no ads option was cheaper right when it went up. price was increased like an hour later
Still says $12.99 for me. I also haven’t seen a single ad on the free version. Not paying till I see one.
Just to reiterate. I love sync and will support the developer. Curious on how Lemmy pans out.
Man is it wild to see the change of heart people have had. From all out support of LJ and sync saying they’ll pay w.e is needed to now actually needing to pay what is needed and shitting on it.

Agreed, it’s sad to see.
I’ve been a user of sync for idk how long.
LJ is a one man shop and he pounded this out over the course of what? A month? Dude has every right to charge what he feels is right for the software.
Honestly at this point there’s no guarantee that lemmy is going to stick around very long, we’re already seeing big communities shut down and splinter. I say strike while the iron is hot and get yours.
I’ll admit I was a little shocked when I saw the pricing, and I will probably need to wait a week or two until I’m on a non-mortgage-paycheck to buy it, but I plan on grabbing pro to support him.
I used Sync for reddit for close to 10 years for like $5 I can afford to give back a bit.
Edit to add another thought: Sync is probably my most used app ever on my phone. I pay $15 or whatever per month for various streaming services, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max etc… and I probably spend more time on Sync than any of those.
I’ve paid $50-60 for games I’ve put less than 20 hours into playing.
Lol?
You can now pay one time to remove ads without subscribing to Ultra.
What if we’ve already subscribed to Ultra but just want the one time payment?
I’m also curious about this.
I imagine the dev hasn’t implemented subscription migration yet. Just cancel your subscription renewal and buy the one time option next year when your subscription ends.
Can’t imagine he can handle all refunds for that reason. He won’t have time to work on the app.
I have no issue with him keeping the money I already spent on Ultra and then paying for the Pro. Worth it.
if you click on the ultra button there’s a button at the bottom that will reset the app to look like you haven’t bought anything. should allow you to pay for Pro. then go back into the ultra settings and restore the purchase. it worked when I changed my ultra to lifetime, so should work the same for pro

Too expensive for a social app? Yeah. But I’ll put some money into his development for this year to help bootstrap a new community and evaluate again next year.
