I’ve been sorting by New, gives me a nice steady feed of content to fuel my Reddit addiction. Now developing a Lemmy addiction.

Unlike reddit, the “New” content on Lemmy isn’t a cesspool of garbage. For the most part it’s actually good high-effort posts, and I get to see them mere minutes or seconds after they’re posted.

I sort mainly by top of the day or new. I wish there were more time frames for the top category, but it is my current favorite. I sort by new a lot because most posts seem to be interesting and it has been a great way to find new communities.

Probably depends on what you’re looking for? Active seems likes it’s for looking for posts with active comment threads, Hot seems likes it’s for posts that have a number of recent upvotes.

(Not sure if this is accurate, this is just the mental picture I’ve painted for myself)

I’ve been using new with “Show Read Posts” unchecked in my profile to clear out what I’ve already seen.

Has it started auto-marking posts as read when you scroll by? I’m personally waiting for that feature.

I think you still have to click right now. I’ve heard the auto-scrolling is being phased out in the next update.

I’ve left it set to New for now. My Hot/Active feeds don’t seem like they update all that much, at first I thought the Lemmy community was pretty quiet until I switched to New.
