to the ~7 or less people who are on this community, you listen to anything that blew you away this year? most of my listening this year has been discovering older music - got into idm in the middle of the year and been basically going through the greats.
here’s a list of the little i did listen to (and remember) that came out this year in no particular order:
- Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want To Turn Into You
- DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - Destiny
- Colin Stetson - When we were what wept for the sea
- Yves Tumor - Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds)
i always look forward to december because then i can pick through other people’s best of the year lists for stuff that passed me by. i’d love to hear some notable releases that i missed!
something like this isn’t usually up my alley lately, but it is really interesting hearing avenged sevenfold go for a different sound! at least i’m assuming it’s a new sound lol, i haven’t heard them in a long time - probably since 2010.
A7X has been putting out progressive works ever since Machine Head’s Robb Flynn called them out for how basic Hail to the King was. The very next album, The Stage was an epic progressive concept album about Artificial Intelligence, probably my favorite A7X album after Bat Country, their newest album, Life is but a Dream is only their second album after the callout by Flynn, I liked the album but most of their fans seemed pissed about it, but like I said it’s very similar to a Mr. Bungle album, and seems to draw a bit from the days when Rev was alive and he and Shadows had their other band, Pinkly Smooth, which was a pretty much their song A little piece of heaven made into a band.
