Because waffles require added stuff (whipped cream, berries, ice cream, etc) to be good. Pancakes only need butter and syrup.
Also, you require a special pan to make waffles. I’ve made pancakes on a hot rock before.
Maple syrup waffles are one of the best things on this planet!
