Do you think gay or lesbian relations between consenting adults should or should not be legal? As you may know, there has been considerable discussion in the news regarding the rights of homosexual men and women. In general, do you think homosexuals should or should not have equal rights in terms of job opportunities? Do you feel that homosexuality should be considered an acceptable alternative lifestyle or not?
How is this usually presented and how is this different? I’ve seen this referenced many times with conclusions that sound very similar to my non-scientastic layperson’s brain.
“ThIs PrOvEs We LiVe In An OlIgArChY” is how the people inluding the BBC misread the paper. What Gilens et al demonstrated was that the policy desires of the top 20% were more likely to be fulfilled which is fundamentally different than being an oligarchy.
While the USA is gunning for oligarchy now that wasn’t the case for the time period the study covers nor is it a position they took.

It sounds like the layperson doesn’t know what oligarchy is, more than misinterpreting the study.
Except the BBC famously also misinterpreted it.
