Cautiously optimistic about this one. I know everyone is sick of comic book movies but as someone who is more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan, I’m still waiting for my turn for a cool cinematic universe that I enjoy. And I really don’t care if it reaches the same heights as the MCU or not, I don’t give a fuck how much Hollywood suits make out of it, I just want good movies in a genre and universe that I enjoy.
And so far I’m liking everything I’m hearing so far. I like that they’re not going with Superman being the ‘first’ superhero, then all the rest suddenly coming out of the woodwork and these he’s going to be entering a world where superhero shenanigans are already commonplace. The DC universe should be a place where Themiscira and Atlantis and even Gorilla City have been a part of the world’s history for millennia. It should be a place where people like Vandal Savage have been around since literal caveman times. Where Jonah Hex haunted the wild west and the Justice Society fought nazis in WW2.
And James Gunn already seems to excel at putting together worlds where even bystanders act like they live in a world where this is everyday shit. So I’m looking forward to an alive DC universe here that also isn’t scared of showcasing some of the sillier aspects of the comics like Krypto or talking gorillas with technology that far surpasses our own. And Gunn seems like just the person for the job.
Me too i just want it to be fun and joyful showing what we as a people could be vs the cynical message of showing us how we are like post endgame Marvel and Snyder era DCEU films.
What if the gorrila’s mother was also named Martha?
WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!?
Gunn could pull this out of its tailspin, like suicide squad 2 - fantastic, stupid movie.
Although I will never forgive James Gunn for starting Chris Pratt’s movie carreer. He was annoying in P&R and, sadly, is now annkying everywhere.
James Gunn picked the right actor for the right role. Hollywood riding that success into the ground is not Gunn’s fault.
Yeah, you are right, he is great as starlord. Still, grumble grumble
