“His friend didn’t like Trump” is a little different to his friend publically endorsing an assassination attempt on their president.

Anyone who was aghast that ‘OMG Tenacious D broke up’ is no fan - they break up on every album, literally every show - it’s a bit. Jack Black is no fan of Trump, he’s publically stated the entire Apocalypto album was a response to Trump’s 2016 win. He hates his guts.

That’s very different to advocating for political assassination on stage.

The smart response was to back away from the situation, distance himself from KG, Kg to issue an apology, let it cool off - and then come back later. And would you look at that - so far that’s exactly what’s been done.

It’s a really poorly thought out idea.

Imagine how his followers would react.

Imagine how many on the left side of US politics would very likely see attempts on their lives or successfully be assassinated in revenge - AOC, Bernie, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib?? Even centrists like Kamala and Obama would be likely targets.

The damage that political assassinations cause in a democracy (even a flawed one) is far greater than the ‘good’ they may do in taking down a bad leader.

More like “Jack Black, a man with $50 million, is a greedy pig and is only worried about getting more of that ‘family friendly’ money.”

All the keyboard warriors in this thread implying they’d happily shout out ‘death to Trump!’ on the world stage while having a kid and family living in the US (as JB does) are kidding themselves.

If it’s like that:: They should’ve decided their public stance on the tour bus and not jeopardized their career.

If it ain’t like that:: They should’ve decided their public stance on the tour bus and been as vocal as possible.

KG’s outrage is less his fault than a fault in their planning as public figures.

Is Jack Black a sellout phony piece of shit?

Would you wear a “Fuck Trump” shirt to work tomorrow?

        Why not, you phony!?

It’s also hypocritical and a “look how far he’s fallen” kind of thing from the very political songs from their begginings, like City Hall, which despite being comedy still had some messages

CallingWishing for the assassination of a political figure (especially one who is currently the sitting president, tho iirc, he was a candidate at the time) is pretty widely viewed as a red line and is very dangerous ground to tread for an American public figure, which he is.

Im pretty sure any “mean” thing he did is between him and Gaas, who has said they remain friends and will tour again as the D. Sounds like he is forgiven for anything you may have perceived as “mean.” It seems like that should satisfy anyone with genuine concerns about his friend.

Or are you just canceling anyone whose rhetoric you view as insufficiently hateful towards Trump? (Dont answer that, it was rhetorical.)

edit: forgot it was a “wish”

Just gonna leave here that Trump is directly responsible for a million of excess COVID deaths. But he was president so that was completely fine, right?

Nice strawman. Where did anyone in this coment thread say anything about him or anything he has done being fine?

Nah, fuck that. You just threw that bullshit out there because you cant stand that I do not and will not support the normalization of political violence as acceptible. At least attempt to scold me for something I actually wrote.

I thought the figure was that he likely caused an additional 461K, but Im happy to round up to a million, as that was a while ago, iirc. Unfortunately, “he may have caused a million excess covid deaths” isnt going to cut it in any kind of criminal justice proceding. So be sure to bring receipts. Ive no doubt he has done lots of things deserving of the death penalty, but youll need to show quite a bit stronger a causal link.

Now go ahead and downvote me for not being radical enough to suit you.

He didn’t call for it. He wished for it. Big difference. One involves other people, one involves candles, shooting stars, and genies.

That’s a dodge worthy of slippery Don himself. We both know that “wishing” someone to die and calling for someone to die are both toxic discourse and doing so where Trump is involved is toxic as well as dangerous.

Kyle was no doubt saying it flippantly to be funny. And Id probably laugh if a friend of mine said it and I was at a private birthday party. I have that luxury because I am not a public figure. Jack Black, however, very much IS a public figure (as is Kyle, albeit somehat less famous,) which brings with it much more scrutiny and no doubt a different calculus.

Again, Kyle said theyre still friends and all is forgiven so this was all just an excuse to insert your toxicity into another lemmy thread.
