“Metroidvania” and “Rogue-like” aren’t names of existing games, though, they’re genre names. The games themselves were called (Super) Metroid, Castlevania and Rogue. It’s about grammar, word definitions and style, not about comparing games to other games.

Sure, but I’d say “it’s like [game name]” or “similar to” or “[game name]-style”, not “it’s a [game name]”.
