I was feeling really bad about myself yesterday, it was just an off day - but today I got my shit together and used construction adhesive to glue a baseboard to a concrete wall in my basement … I thought this was going to be pretty easy - was I ever wrong, I had so much trouble:
The adhesive didn’t fit in my caulk gun at first, I had to literally warp the plastic to get it to finally fit (they look like the right size, no idea what’s up, I would have thought this was standardized).
Once I had the adhesive on the baseboard and I put the board up against the wall, I realized the concrete wall was not flat and there were gaps between the board and the wall 😱
So then I found some hand weights and put them up against the board to at least have some pressure against the board so it’s a little more flush. I read online that some people drive screws or nails through the concrete, and that was well beyond what I could do in a pinch to help this board cure flush against the wall … someone mentioned using a 2x4 and wedging it against the opposite wall - so I went around looking for scraps, piling as many of my home gym weights as possible against the baseboard as I could (only mildly helpful).
Alas I had no 2x4 pieces long enough to work, but I found some scrap wood that was maybe half the length, and brought those to see if I could wedge it diagonally. No luck, unfortunately.
Then I thought to put the long pieces together as though they were one long piece, and then add some shims and other scrap pieces to create enough length that it built tension against the baseboard and it sorta works! I did take an inch long splinter into my hand in the process, though - and now I’m nursing my wounds feeling half accomplished.
Was it a win? I don’t know, but I’m going to boldly claim it was anyway. (Related: Why is there no emoji of someone posting a flag at the top of a mountain?)
I couldn’t even get my head round what you did so I’m incredibly impressed. I wouldn’t have even dared try that project at all. You did great dandy ❤️
Have you thought about asking !dadforaminute@lemmy.world for DIY tips? I think there’s some DIY comms but idk them
