A user on our instance reported a post on lemmynsfw as CSAM. Upon seeing the post, I looked at the community it was part of, and immediately purged all traces of that community from our instance.
I approached the admins of lemmynsfw and they assured me that the models with content in the community were all verified as being over 18. The fact that the community is explicitly focused on making the models appear as if they’re not 18 was fine with them. The fact that both myself and one a member of this instance assumed it was CSAM, was fine with them. I was in fact told that I was body shaming.
I’m sorry for the lack of warning, but a community skirting the line trying to look like CSAM isn’t a line I’m willing to walk. I have defederated lemmynsfw and won’t be reinstating it whilst that community is active.
Yeah, so this is my account on here, here to tell you that Ada banned the above account for calling them out. Someone who responds to criticism by lashing out like that does NOT need to be administrating an instance for marginalized people. That is a recipe for disaster. Making sweeping changes with no regard to community opinions, banning people who disagree with you, shit. I think I definitely made the right choice to pick a different instance. The lemmyverse needs an instance for lgbt+ folk that isn’t run by little dictators in training. So go ahead and ban this account too. Let them see how fragile you really are.

And your use of “fragile” as a pejorative is interesting. Protecting folk who are already fragile is exactly what I’m trying to do here.

Because they aren’t critical. It was just an excuse to delete dissenting opinions.

The point of federated instances is that they can make their own decisions around federation, moderation, administration, etc.
This post is not intended for negotiating and arguing about this decision. This is the admins of this instance letting members know of a decision they’ve made. If you’re a member here, cool, this affects you. It’s not going to change, though, so if you don’t like it there’s plenty of other instances that will continue to federate with lemmynsfw.
If you’re not a member, this doesn’t affect you, and your opinion is literally just noise here. Feel free to start a post decrying the prudish, authoritarian stance of the blahaj admins and espousing your need to allow CSAM adjacent material literally anywhere else.
So tell me, if you saw one of the models from the photos in question in public, dressed provocatively, would you tell this person to cover up because they may be mistaken for a child? Would you tell them that they are borderline kiddie porn? Are you going to shame that person’s body? No. But you’ll call ‘em pedobait behind their backs. How fuckin’ scummy is that?
My issue is not with the individuals portrayed, but with the community, the framing, and the instance’s administration. My understanding is that the blahaj admins have similar issues.

Framing it as up being upset about whether or not to allow CSAM instead of us being upset because it wasn’t CSAM and an admin knee-jerk banned an instance, not because of facts, but because the admin felt icky. THATS what we are pissed about, and framing it any other way is disingenuous.
