it’s very expensive, just everything about guns are impractical for the trans community:
we are typically poor and under/un-employed
we are typically suicidal
we are typically discriminated against by juries and judges
even if you are the exceptional trans person who somehow has the money and time to properly own and train with a gun, you are more likely to use it on yourself than in self defense, and even if you do use it in self defense (and you survive the encounter), the “justice” system is likely to ruin your life over it. (You do not want to be a trans person in prison.)
That said, I don’t really see a way around guns as a part of community defense (not that this is how they are being used currently), and the psychological reasons trans people turn to guns like fear and physical security aren’t going away … so I’m not sure what the best course of action is.
Anti-gun advocacy just comes across as liberal bullshit, and a kind of anti-militancy message sounds a lot like dismissing legitimate fears. On the other hand, the risks and potential harms are real and not getting mitigated properly.

I do think community could be a way to help with this, but where is the time and money for that?
I think the most likely outcome is that the influx of guns will have negative impacts like they do to other marginalized groups. It’s even harder to help the trans community with this considering we are more dispersed and less likely to live collectively or in similar areas, unlike ghettos where marginalized people of color are concentrated.
Honestly, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for training and resources to be provided to all gun owners, considering the harms are not unique to trans people even if they are more intense for us - but again, it assumes trans people even have the time, money, energy, etc. to utilize that training.
