it’s for organizing ebooks on your hard drive, you can set up all the metadata (title, author, etc) and manage which ones are on your device. it can also convert among ebook formats (though be advised that pdf conversion is spotty). if your philosophy is “all the books stay on the reader not my hard drive”, or if you don’t care about setting up metadata, you’re probably fine just dropping files onto the reader.
