Spoilers for Picard season 3 and Prodigy

This Akira class ship fought a Borg cube in 2373, was a victim of the cyber attack in 2384 which caused it to fight it’s own fleet, and was caught up in the Borg stealth-assimilation of half of Starfleet in 2401 which probably led to a lot of it’s crew dying.

I do appreciate the more realistic lifespan, starships are massive investments that should last at least a few decades and are designed with continuous upgrades in mind (unless they’re called “Enterprise” apparently).
